Stamped & Decorative Concrete in NW Indiana

The look of stone, slate, brick or wood plank, poured as one durable slab, for patios, walkways, pool decks and driveway borders.

Why homeowners choose stamped concrete

Stamped concrete gives you a patterned, colored surface without setting thousands of individual pavers. It’s popular for backyard patios, front walks and decorative borders on otherwise plain driveways.

Common patterns and colors

  • Ashlar slate and random stone: the most popular patio look
  • Cobblestone and brick: classic borders for driveways and walks
  • Wood plank: a deck look with no boards to rot or splinter
  • Two-tone designs: a contrasting border around a field color

Stamped concrete in a freeze-thaw climate

Stamped concrete is concrete, and it faces the same freeze-thaw cycles and salt as everything else outside in Northwest Indiana. A few things matter even more here:

  • Sealing. The sealer protects the color and the surface. Expect to reseal every few years. Your contractor will recommend a schedule.
  • Salt. Stamped driveways and walks that get salted every winter wear faster. Many homeowners use stamped concrete where salt isn’t needed (patios, borders) and a plain broom finish where it is.
  • Slip resistance. A glossy sealer can be slick when wet or icy. Ask about adding a grit additive to the sealer on walking surfaces.
  • Joints. Control joints are still needed; good installers hide them in the pattern’s grout lines.

Stamped concrete vs. pavers

Pavers can be lifted and reset individually and handle frost movement well, but they cost more to install and weeds can grow in the joints. Stamped concrete is a single slab with a lower upfront cost and less weeding, but it needs periodic sealing and a crack can’t be hidden by swapping one paver. Both can be good choices. A contractor can walk you through the trade-offs for your yard.

Where stamped concrete works best

  • Backyard patios and fire-pit areas
  • Front walks and entryways
  • Pool surrounds
  • Decorative borders and aprons on driveways
